Shrines trace back
to antiquity, perhaps to when that first cave man lugged a special rock or
shell into his cave and placed it on his hunting shrine. I usually build one
before taking a trip and spend a month or more considering what should go on
it. A travel shrine should represent my
journey and all the things I hope and expect for any upcoming travel. It should
show how eager and excited I am to go; it should also show my fears and
hesitations, my joys and my fears. Its core purpose is to help me see and understand
all the issues that surround this journey.
But, for this trip
I erected no shrine. Maybe got too busy; maybe I got too lazy. So, I plan to
simply “be” and “let be.” I’ll be
watching two delightful little Schnauzer’s -- Sultan and Pasha, spending lots of time
walking, re-exploring all the many nook and crannies I’ve explored in San Miguel
de Allende before, and perhaps finding some new ones.
I will read a lot. I plan to get much written
for Nurses for Edna.” (Check out our
webpage http://onenurseatatime.org/volunteer/nurses-for-edna/ ) and add few more poems in my “Gramma
cCllection." The one thing I want to meditate
on during my retreat: The standing and
stance of women around the world.
And,of course, I’ll be writing a “dog blog” for Sultan and
Pasha and even if you aren’t interested in reading anything I have to say, you
really should check in on “the boys” now and then. I think you’ll find them delightful…and, if
you speak even a little bit of Spanish, you’ll get a real hoot from mine!
Con mucho carina,
Nancy
